Welcome Back to Yuppa’s monthly theatre upkeep! This month, I’m introducing you to the world of Joe Tracz’s “Be More Chill”. This is a good one so buckle up guys and lets get into it!!
Short Overview
This musical is an insane mashup between a love story, a coming of age tale with a supernatural overtone.The story is told from the perspective of “Jeremy” a teenager driven by infatuation to join the school musical to get close to his crush “Christine”(who is clueless about anything other than musicals). He is also persuaded by a friend to take a pill called a “squip” which is supposed to show him how to be cool. Then it gets very interesting... and to avoid any major spoilers, I’m going to leave it there.
The Music
The musical score of Be More Chill is what makes the show so original. It has songs with a video game style of music with ones of an innocent feel. It is used to recognise characters also. All music and lyrics were written by Joe Iconis. As the show is quite new, the songs would make an impressive addition to any audition performance. On top of all of that technical stuff, the lyrics are absolutely hilarious!!!

I fully advise anyone to go see this musical if youre ever around New York.
